Job Changes

Greg Purdy has joined The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway marketing team as communications manager. He will direct the attraction’s communications efforts, including media relations, special event promotion, social media supervision and content creation. A Palm Springs resident since 1984, he has worked in the Coachella Valley hotel industry, eventually managing or serving as director of sales for several small to mid-sized properties.

Recognitions

Coachella Valley’s renewable energy firm Hot Purple Energy has been selected as the 56th Assembly District’s“2014 Small Business of the Year.” Owners Nate Otto, President, and David Herrlinger, Vice President, will travel to Sacramento on June 16 to participate in a recognition event sponsored by the California Small Business Association. Established in 2009, Hot Purple Energy (HPE) is a full-service firm providing solar and energy efficiency solutions for residences and businesses through the Coachella Valley. “The work of Hot Purple Energy has brought tangible gains for energy efficiency to our desert communities, while raising awareness about energy conservation and the benefits of solar power,” said Assemblyman V. Manuel Pérez.

The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage was named in the “Top 100 Tennis Resorts & Camps” by avid tennis players in the reader’s poll at Tennis Resorts Online. The rankings compiled by Tennis Resorts Online are based solely on reviews submitted by vacationers over the past year. Participants in the survey were asked to write a summary of their experience and evaluate the resort or camp based on more than 20 criteria that range from vacation experience, quality of tennis staff, instruction and programs to lodging and cuisine. “We are thrilled to be a ‘Top 100’ tennis resort,” said Pat Dennehy, PBI Director of Tennis, at The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa.

Critical care nurse Ruby Gubat, RN, MA, CCRN, was named 2014 Nurse of the Year for Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, during a Nurse Week ceremony held in the Auditorium of the Sinatra Education Center on the hospital’s campus. Gubat has served patients in Desert Regional Medical Center’s cardiac catheterization lab since 2010 and a member of the team that helped developed the hospital’s electrophysiology program (EP) for the treatment of heart rhythm disorders.

Las Casuelas Nuevas in Rancho Mirage announced that it has received a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence award. The accolade, which honors hospitality excellence, is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on TripAdvisor, and is extended to qualifying businesses worldwide.

Philanthropy

Paula Kennedy, Gilda’s Club President and CEO, announced that The California Wellness Foundation awarded Gilda’s Club Desert Cities two grants for the program of emotional and social support that the cancer support organization provides free of charge to people living with cancer in the Coachella Valley. The Foundation’s grants total $25,000 for a one-year period and are for core operating support. “These generous grants are allowing us to remain fully sustainable, and to continue serving ever greater numbers of individuals and families in our valley who are affected by cancer. We are extremely grateful to the Foundation of providing this welcome support,” she said.
