Show Appreciation for Hard Work

Employees are happy when they’re recognized for their work. It’s their way of confirming what they’re doing is important to the company. This provides security for the employee, and that makes them happy. As the authority figure, it’s important you show your appreciation for what your workers have done.

Happier employees received better performance evaluations and higher pay. The positive feedback lets them know their work is appreciated, and the higher pay validates that theory.

As an employee, there’s nothing better than when your boss pulls you aside and tells you they really liked the work you did. This positivity will carry over to the next thing the employee is working on. Productivity and positivity both improve when you show your employees you appreciate them.

Embrace Creative Thinking

Let’s look at this through the perspective of the employee. Let’s say your company is looking to solve a problem, but it isn’t sure how to tackle it. You come up with a creative way to diminish this problem, and you’re really excited about this innovative strategy. You make a PowerPoint, go over your lines, and present this idea to your bosses.

And they immediately shoot it down.

It’s important to embrace this outside-the-box way of thinking. Try to understand your employees’ strengths, and evaluate if they can handle these innovative ideas they present. Worker positivity will increase when they’re allowed to complete the work the way that they want to. Don’t turn down an idea just because it’s a new way at looking at a familiar problem.

Implement Humor

There are so many workplace benefits that can come from creating a culture that accepts humor. Humor can boost morale, decrease stress, and increase productivity. It also humanizes you from the employees’ viewpoint, and that makes them trust you.

It’s important to make sure you establish a workplace culture where people are comfortable with being themselves. This will relax your employees and give them the freedom to crack jokes. Just a few casual one-liners here and there is enough for employees to be confident in their behavior.

Although everyone loves a good sense of humor, please proceed with caution. There are some jokes that might go over well with your close friends, but that doesn’t make them appropriate in a workplace environment. You have to establish offensive humor will not be tolerated. However, lighthearted jokes can go a long way in boosting positivity.

Reward Your Employees on Friday

Friday is easily the most unproductive day of the week. It’s important to get the most out of Friday, and the best way to do this is to make Friday fun. A relaxed Friday makes employees happy, and they go into the weekend with positive thoughts about your company.

Reward your employees for their hard work by making Friday an enjoyable workday. Incentives such as free lunch, donuts or games will boost positivity in the workplace.

You can also watch a work-related (yet entertaining) movie. One company watched “Jobs,” and it saw an increase in motivation and positivity over the next few days. Utilize a lazy Friday and turn it into a fun day to come into work.

Use Small Acts of Kindness

Small acts of kindness can go a long way in boosting positivity. If you can bring a smile to your workers every day, then I guarantee they will be happy working for you.

Simple compliments, short conversations, small gifts, and public recognition are all things you can do every day that will make your employees happy.

Open Up Communication

People love it when they know that they’re being heard. Institute an open-door policy where employees can come talk to you at any time. If an employee does come to you to talk about a concern they have, make sure you drop everything you’re doing and give them your full attention.

It’s important you assure your employee you understand their side of the argument, even if you don’t agree with it. Try to get them to see your perspective and come to a mutual agreement.

Show your employees you’re listening to them. If they mention their anniversary is in a month, write it down and wish them a happy anniversary on that day. If they talk to you about something they saw in the news, bring it up again the next day if you read something similar that happened. Make sure you show them you genuinely care about them.
