Remi Garde has told Adama Traore to forget trying to play like Lionel Messi and instead up his work-rate to earn a place in Aston Villa’s starting XI.
Adama, the 19-year-old winger, was signed from Barcelona for £7million to much acclaim but has yet to feature in a Premier League game from the beginning.
Ten days ago Adama posted a video highlights reel of his skills on Facebook and vowed to fulfil his promise at Villa – but Garde has instructed him to contribute fully to matches rather than perform as an attacking soloist.

Garde has reminded Traore that he isn’t as good as four-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi
Adama was given the final three minutes against Arsenal and produced a dribble round three defenders before shooting into the side netting. He later ran the ball out of play with another effort.
Some fans have called for Adama to feature more given Villa’s dire predicament but Garde said: ‘He is inconsistent in his game. You cannot have a player, except for maybe Messi, who can walk on the pitch and only play when his team has the ball. Nobody can do that.’
Adama started the Capital One Cup tie against Notts County – scoring in the game – and has appeared six times off the bench in the Premier League.

‘I saw the first training sessions and watched a lot of Adama’s videos on what he has done previously,’ added Garde.
‘I’m not on Twitter or Facebook but I have a computer with a lot of software and I can see everything – except when I was playing because we had no pictures!
‘He is very gifted, I know that. He has some brilliant skill and is tremendous on dribbling but it’s a small part of the game.

‘How long do you hold the ball in a game, one minute 30, two minutes? Then what are you doing for 88 minutes? If you are not doing well especially in the situation where we are it’s quite a problem.
‘We need hard workers. I don’t mean Adama is not a hardworker but he is young and inconsistent and he needs to work.
‘When you look at him coming in against Arsenal the first action he did was brilliant but then I am looking overall. I have to keep the balance of the team. Adama needs to work like every player.’ –

Meanwhile, Villa have recalled Aly Cissokho from his loan spell at Porto, the Portuguese club have confirmed on their official website.
The left-back will return to the midlands, although he cannot play until January, with Jordan Amavi out for the season with a serious knee injury.
Cissokho played under boss Remi Garde at Lyon and the 49-year-old has opted to bring him back with Villa bottom of the Barclays Premier League.
Leandro Bacuna, a right-back, played on the left in Sunday’s 2-0 defeat by Arsenal which left Villa eight points from safety with Kieran Richardson failing to impress while deputising for Amavi.
Former Liverpool loanee Cissokho, 28, has made 27 appearances since signing from Valencia under Paul Lambert in 2014 but he has made just two league appearances for Porto this term.
He initially joined Porto on a season-long loan deal in August.
