Saido Berahino and Brown Ideye scored a goal apiece in the second half to give West Bromwich Albion a simple pre-season win against their neighbours Walsall.

The League One club could have taken the lead in the 40th minute when West Brom’s Craig Gardner tripped Tom Bradshaw inside the box, only for the latter to send his penalty wide.

West Brom’s controversial winger James McClean tried to let his football do the talking on Tuesday night as he assisted Berahino for the opening goal in the routine victory.

Both of the Barclays Premier League club’s goals were from close range as Berahino and Ideye finished off fine moves down the wing.

Walsall’s big moment came shortly before half-time, when Bradshaw was clipped by former Sunderland midfielder Gardner.

Bradshaw’s penalty, however, struck the left-hand post, and his rebound was no better as it was sent around the opposite post.

Berahino made his Premier League instincts count, however, as he broke the deadlock shortly after the hour mark by getting on the end of McClean’s low cross from the left wing.

From then on, it was never in doubt.

The pre-season win was confirmed by £10million purchase Ideye, with McClean again involved down the left wing.
