Key quotes from Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s latest press conference:

* ‘Are we interested in signing Krychowiak? No.’

* ‘Flamini? I expect him to stay.’

* ‘When you lose a game there is a demand to sign players. Let’s look inside and not except a miracle from outside.

‘We have a great group with a fantastic mentality. We are united and we will focus together on the next game.

‘One result does not affect our transfer plans. We are working hard on that.’

ANTHONY HAY: Liverpool outcast Mario Balotelli will receive a six-figure loyalty bonus if he stays at Anfield past the end of the current transfer window.

Balotelli, who celebrated his 25th birthday with his Liverpool team-mates on Wednesday, has been alienated by Brendan Rodgers but could be keen on prolonging his stay at Anfield due to a monetary incentive.

The former Manchester City striker was not included in Liverpool’s pre-season touring party of Asia as he has been made to train away from the first team along with Fabio Borini and Jose Enrique.

And after scoring the winner against Sevilla in the Super Cup on Tuesday, he all but confirmed he will leave the Nou Camp in search of regular first-team football.

Gayle will train with Palace on Friday ahead of their Barclays Premier League clash with Arsenal, but Pardew reiterated that there is simply no room for the forward in his team.

Angelo Ogbonna has revealed Slaven Bilic sold him on his vision for West Ham and used the lure of regular football to convince him to move to Upton Park.

The Italy international picked up two Serie A titles during his time with Juventus and was an unused substitute in May’s Champions League final defeat to Barcelona.

Since then he has become the second player of the summer – after Dimitri Payet – to move to West Ham for an eight-figure fee but scored an unfortunate own goal on his debut against Astra Giurgiu in the Europa League qualifiers.

RIATH AL-SAMARRAI: Mauricio Pochettino is set to take a huge gamble with Tottenham’s Champions League ambitions by having only two specialist strikers in his squad.

Even that figure remains dependant on Spurs bringing a player in during this window, with Roberto Soldado flying to Spain on Thursday to finalise his move to Villarreal and Emmanuel Adebayor reminded that he has no place in the first-team set-up.

That leaves only Harry Kane as an established striker in the current squad, with Pochettino admitting he wants to sign only one frontman in this transfer window.

Just 55 days earlier he had returned from Slovenia as a member of the England squad, earning his call-up from Roy Hodgson after scoring 18 times in his first season in the Barclays Premier League.

So why is Austin, 26, preparing to partner Jay Emmanuel-Thomas against Cardiff City at Loftus Road on Saturday when everybody expected clubs to be queueing around the block for this English goalscorer?

Although Baldini is only supposed to be overseeing the sale of players in his final few weeks at the club, Levy has turned to the Italian to broker the purchase of striker Clinton N’Jie.

Paul Mitchell, the highly rated head of recruitment poached from Southampton last season, has been sidelined in the talks to sign N’Jie from Lyon because Baldini has a longstanding relationship with the French club’s president, Jean-Michel Aulas.

SIMON JONES: Valencia remain convinced Manchester City will make a bid for Nicolas Otamendi before the end of the month.

City have refused to rule out a move for the centre-back but do not see the position as a priority. They are maintaining a watching brief on the situation as they will always consider players who could potentially improve their squad, as with Barcelona’s Pedro.

Valencia need cash to help strengthen their squad elsewhere and are ready to sacrifice the combative Otamendi as he has a buy-out clause set at £35million.

Sunderland skipper John O’Shea is keeping his fingers crossed for new signings as head coach Dick Advocaat attempts to avoid another survival fight.

Advocaat was left admitting he needed reinforcements as last Saturday’s 4-2 drubbing at Leicester on the opening day of the new Barclays Premier League campaign rekindled memories of successive desperate fights against relegation.

The loss of winger Adam Johnson to a shoulder injury for at least eight weeks has exacerbated the need for further arrivals, and the Black Cats have been linked with Manchester United youngster Adnan Januzaj and former loan signing Fabio Borini in recent days.
