Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have been put through their paces on the training pitches ahead of hosting Tottenham on Thursday evening.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are currently in fine form, second in the Bundesliga and held leaders Bayern Munich in a 0-0 draw on Saturday. That is matched by Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs, who are also second in the Premier League.

Tuchel has praised the work of Pochettino ahead of the last-16 first-leg but also failed to rule out Manchester City target Ilkay Gundogan leaving the club.

Gundogan, 25, has been persistently linked with a move away from Dortmund, with Sportsmail revealing Manchester City is his most likely destination courtesy of a £23million summer transfer.

‘Am I convinced that he will stay? I don’t really know. I can only say that once he has actually signed. I know what we can offer him and if that’s enough for him to stay then so be it.

‘I’m not disappointed and I’m not convinced,’ added Tuchel. ‘I do not understand the excitement about all of this.

‘We are also looking forward to next season. We are planning and we speak to advisers and players – it is part of the everyday job we do.’

Tuchel, who took charge of the club at the beginning of the season, has been impressed with Pochettino’s side.

‘We are very much impressed with their season so far,’ said Tuchel. ‘[Coach Mauricio] Pochettino has turned Spurs into a united team. They deserve to be where they are in the Premier League.

‘Spurs remind me a bit of a German team. A lot of their characteristics can be seen in German teams as well.

They want to win the ball high on the pitch, are very compact, press high and defend as a unit, with their attackers also chiming in. That’s pretty unique in England.

‘It will be interesting to see whose style prevails. We have to play without taking risks and have to be very precise. We want to dominate proceedings. It will be two tight games, I have no doubt about that.’
