Anthony Crolla v Jorge Linares: Manchester fighter suffers defeat in rematch

Crolla v Linares

Linares beat Crolla to take the WBA lightweight belt in September

Anthony Crolla failed in his bid to regain the WBA lightweight title as Jorge Linares retained the belt with a unanimous decision in Manchester.

The Venezuelan also retains his WBC Diamond and Ring Magazine belts.

In a rematch of their September bout – won by Linares – Crolla struggled to damage his opponent and was knocked down by a seventh-round uppercut.

The Manchester fighter recovered, but Linares rode the punches, and his composed superiority eventually told.

All three judges awarded the contest in the 31-year-old’s favour, 118-109.
